Is Crowdtap Legit? I’ve Made $355, Here’s My Honest Review

Is Crowdtap legit? Yes. I’ve redeemed 71 gift cards on Crowdtap, $355 in total, from November 2021 to July 2023. Every gift card arrived, usually the next day.

Crowdtap was one of my first survey apps, back in 2021, before Prolific and CloudResearch Connect. It pays less per hour than both. But it’s the one platform that works best on my phone, and it has no waitlist.

Here’s how it works, what I earned, how you get paid, and the downsides.

What Is Crowdtap?

Crowdtap is an app and website where brands pay you in points for your opinions. Most of what you do is quick polls and surveys. Crowdtap calls them “actions.”

Crowdtap is owned by Suzy, Inc., a market research company. According to its terms, you have to live in the US, and you have to be at least 13, with a parent’s permission if you’re under 18

How I Found Crowdtap (No Waitlist)

I found Crowdtap on the r/beermoney subreddit in 2021 and started right away. There was no waitlist then. I checked again recently, and there’s still no waitlist. That’s rare now, because Prolific, Connect and UserCrowd all have one.

How Crowdtap Works

Your dashboard shows actions as colored tiles. You tap a tile, answer the questions and earn points.

I logged in today to write this post and had 3 tiles waiting. More show up as you finish them:

Actions pay different amounts. I’ve seen 5, 10 and 70 points. Most are short polls, and some are longer surveys.

How Much I’ve Made

Here’s my total:

My best months were $30, and that was the most I could get from Crowdtap in a month, logging in every day. 2022 was my best year at $250.

How Crowdtap Points Work

1,000 points = $5. That’s the smallest gift card you can get:

So a 10-point action is worth 5 cents, and a 70-point action is worth 35 cents. In my best months, I earned about 200 points a day, or $1 a day. It took me more than an hour of actions to earn $5, so it works out to under $5 an hour.

How You Get Paid

Crowdtap pays in gift cards, not cash. There are 41 options, including Amazon, Target, Walmart, Starbucks, Visa and PayPal:

Most cards start at 1,000 points ($5). A few start higher: Visa starts at 5,000 points ($25), and PayPal starts at 5,000 points with a 6% fee.

I always picked a $5 Amazon gift card. Amazon is where I do most of my online shopping, and I used the cards for supplements and everyday orders.

Gift cards come by email from Tango Card. My last one was requested on July 31, 2023:

All 71 of my gift cards came through, almost always the next day. None were denied.

Why I Always Cashed Out at $5

Back then, people on r/beermoney kept saying the same thing: cash out these platforms as soon as you hit the minimum, because accounts can get banned out of the blue.

I never had a problem. But Crowdtap’s terms do say they can close your account at any time and cancel your points. Points also expire 1 year after the end of the month you earned them. So I cashed out every time I hit 1,000 points.

The Phone App Is the Best Part

On Prolific, Connect and UserCrowd, I work only on my laptop. Crowdtap is different. The tile system works much better on a phone, so I did most of my actions in the Crowdtap app.

Some tiles only show up on the app, and some only on the website. So I did most actions on my phone, then checked the website for the web-only tiles.

Screen-Outs and Attention Checks

Like other survey sites, some actions screen you out if you don’t fit what the brand is looking for.

There are also attention checks, so read every question.

How Crowdtap Compares to Prolific, Connect and UserCrowd

Crowdtap pays the least per hour of the four, under $5 compared to about $9 to $12 on the others, and it pays in gift cards instead of PayPal. But it’s my second-highest earner overall at $355, because it works so well on my phone that I used it almost every day for nearly two years.

Who Crowdtap Isn’t For

Crowdtap isn’t for you if you want cash or a real hourly rate. Even logging in every day, my max was $30 a month. If your time is worth more, start with Prolific.

Is Crowdtap Legit? My Verdict

Yes, Crowdtap is legit. I redeemed 71 gift cards worth $355, and every one arrived, usually the next day.
