Is UserCrowd legit? Yes. I’ve been on UserCrowd since November 2021, I’ve completed 135 paid tests, and I’ve earned $78.60 in total. Every payout has arrived in my PayPal.

UserCrowd was actually my first testing site, before Prolific and CloudResearch Connect. It pays less than both, but it works differently, and it has one feature the others don’t: interviews that pay $37.50 to $82.50 each.
Here’s my honest experience: how it works, what I earned, how payouts work, and the downsides.

What Is UserCrowd?
UserCrowd is a site where you get paid to give feedback on websites and apps. Designers, marketers and product teams post tests through a UX research platform called Lyssna, and UserCrowd testers like me take them.
A typical test shows you a website or app design and asks what you think. Which features are good? What’s confusing? In some tests you look at one design. In others you compare two and pick the one you like better.
My PayPal payments come from “UsabilityHub PTY LTD.” That’s the Australian company that rebranded as Lyssna in 2023, so don’t be surprised when you see that name in your PayPal.
How I Found UserCrowd (and the Waitlist)
My first test was on November 25, 2021. It paid $1.20.

When I joined, there was no waitlist. I signed up and started taking tests. That has changed. UserCrowd now puts new applicants on a waitlist, and you get an email if you’re accepted. You also have to be 18 or older.
After you’re accepted, you verify your email and phone number, then take a practice test. A real person reviews it, so take it seriously. If it’s rejected, you can’t retake it.
The 3 Types of Studies
UserCrowd has three study types, and you can choose which ones you want to be notified about:

- Tests: you complete tasks and answer questions. These are the ones I do.
- Tests with recordings: same idea, but your screen, camera and microphone are on, and you often think aloud.
- Interviews: live video calls with a researcher, from 15 minutes to 2 hours.
I only do plain tests.
How Much I’ve Made
Here’s where my $78.60 came from:
- 135 completed tests: $75.60
- 17 screen-outs: $3.00
- Total: $78.60
Most tests are tiny. A typical test pays $0.20 or $0.40 and takes me 1 to 2 minutes. My median test paid $0.40, and my highest-paying tests paid $2.80.
Every test email I’ve gotten recently lists at least $12 an hour. In my experience, counting the time it takes to catch tests, it works out to $9+ an hour. That’s lower than Prolific, where I average about $12 an hour, but the tests are so short you can do one while waiting for something else.

Interviews Pay a Lot More
This is the part of UserCrowd that surprised me when I looked at my dashboard. Right now I have $289.20 worth of studies available:

Seven of those eight are interviews. Interviews pay a fixed amount based on length:
| Interview length | Pay | Per hour |
|---|---|---|
| 15 minutes | $30.00 | $120 |
| 30 minutes | $37.50 | $75 |
| 45 minutes | $45.00 | $60 |
| 60 minutes | $52.50 | $52.50 |
| 90 minutes | $67.50 | $45 |
| 120 minutes | $82.50 | $41.25 |
One 30-minute interview pays almost half of what I’ve made from 135 tests.
So why haven’t I done one? They’re long, and they need your camera and microphone on a live video call with a researcher. You also have to pass a screener first, and then you book a time slot. I prefer short tests I can do in a minute or two, whenever I want.
If you’re comfortable on camera, interviews are where the real money on UserCrowd is.
The Downside: Short Tests Go Fast
New tests show up almost every day. From September 23 to October 9, 2026, UserCrowd emailed me at least 55 tests. The catch is that the short plain tests, like $0.20 for 1 minute, get taken fast. Sometimes they’re gone before the email even arrives. That’s why my dashboard is usually full of interviews: they’re what’s left after the quick tests fill up.
So if you only want quick, plain tests like me, you have to be fast. Here’s how I get more studies on UserCrowd.
I also took a long break. From late 2023 to mid-2025, I didn’t do any tests because I was busy with college and Outlier AI. When I came back, UserCrowd was still there and still paying.
Getting Screened Out Still Pays
Some tests start with screening questions. If you don’t fit what the researcher needs, you’re screened out, but you still get paid a small amount.

My screen-outs paid $0.10 or $0.20 each. UserCrowd has always paid me for them. I’ve just had more of them lately: 17 in total, adding up to $3.00.
Your Tester Rating
Unlike Prolific and Connect, UserCrowd doesn’t use attention checks. Instead, a real person on their quality team reviews your responses, and you get a rating from 1 to 5 stars.
My rating is 4.8 out of 5. Here’s how it works:
- Thoughtful, detailed answers raise your rating.
- Rushed, one-word answers lower it.
- Higher-rated testers get assigned more tests.
UserCrowd also bans using AI to write your answers. They want your real opinion, and you don’t have to be positive. “The navigation is confusing” is a great answer. “This sucks” is not.
I’ve never been rejected, unpaid or flagged on UserCrowd.
How You Get Paid
UserCrowd pays through PayPal only.

A few things to know:
- The minimum payout is $10. Right now I have $4, so I can’t cash out yet.
- Your PayPal needs to accept international business payments, since the money comes from an Australian company.
- Payouts aren’t instant. UserCrowd reviews every payout request first, and it can take up to 30 days.

In practice, mine have been faster than 30 days. I requested my latest payout on January 20, 2026, and it landed in my PayPal on January 24, four days later. My slowest was in July 2022: I requested it on July 1 and got it on July 9.

I’ve cashed out 7 times, $74.60 in total, and every payout has been successful.

How UserCrowd Compares to Prolific and Connect
I use all three, and UserCrowd is the smallest earner for me. I’ve made $78.60 here, compared to about $810 on Prolific and $177.12 on CloudResearch Connect.
The big differences:
- Shorter tests. Most UserCrowd tests take 1 to 2 minutes.
- No attention checks. A real person reviews your answers instead.
- Slower payouts. Prolific and Connect pay me in minutes. UserCrowd can take up to 30 days.
- Interviews. UserCrowd is the only one of the three where a single study can pay $50+.
That’s why I use UserCrowd as an extra, not my main study site.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Legit, and has paid me since 2021
- Tests are very short, often 1 to 2 minutes
- No attention checks
- Screen-outs still pay
- Interviews pay $37.50 to $82.50
Cons:
- Low pay on plain tests
- Short tests fill up fast
- $10 minimum payout
- Payouts can take up to 30 days
- PayPal only
- Waitlist for new testers
Who UserCrowd Isn’t For
UserCrowd isn’t for you if you want steady, daily work. Short tests fill up fast, and they pay cents each. It’s also not a good fit if you need your money right away, since payouts are reviewed first.
Is UserCrowd Legit? My Verdict
Yes, UserCrowd is legit. I’ve made $78.60 from 135 tests since 2021, I have a 4.8 rating, and all 7 of my payouts arrived in PayPal.
It’s not where I make most of my study money. Prolific and Connect pay me more. But UserCrowd tests take a minute or two, and if you’re comfortable on camera, the interviews can pay more in 30 minutes than I’ve made from dozens of plain tests. If you want to try it, you can apply to UserCrowd here.

Already on a testing site? Use more than one. I’d start with Prolific, then add CloudResearch Connect and UserCrowd so you almost always have something to do. Here’s my Prolific review and my CloudResearch Connect review. If you want a fourth platform, here’s my Crowdtap review.
