The Amazon Flex Debit Card is a free Visa debit card from Green Dot Bank, and only Amazon Flex delivery drivers can get it. It pays up to 6% cash back on gas. I got it in April 2025 for one reason: gas cash back.
I’ve used it for about 17 months. It has paid me $248.58 in cash back so far, and $242.37 of that came from gas.
This review covers how to get the card, how the Flex Rewards levels work, what it really pays, the catches, and a gas station glitch that keeps happening to me.
This review is not sponsored and I don’t use an affiliate link. I’m a Flex driver who uses the card every week.

What Is the Amazon Flex Debit Card?
The Amazon Flex Debit Card is a Visa debit card for Amazon Flex delivery partners. Green Dot Bank issues it. All of my card emails come from Green Dot Corporation in West Chester, Ohio.
It’s a debit card, not a credit card. You spend money you’ve loaded onto it. There’s no credit line and no interest.
The main feature is cash back. You get up to 6% on gas and eligible EV charging, 2% at Amazon.com and Whole Foods, and 1% on everything else.
There’s no monthly fee.

Who Can Get the Amazon Flex Debit Card?
Only Amazon Flex delivery partners can get it. If you don’t drive for Flex, you can’t apply.
That’s why so few people write about this card. It’s a niche product for a niche group. If you already drive for Flex, it’s one of the easiest perks to pick up.
If you’re new to debit cards in general, read my guide on how to get your first debit card first.
How to Apply for the Amazon Flex Debit Card
You apply inside the Amazon Flex app:
- Open the Amazon Flex app.
- Tap Menu.
- Tap Your Dashboard.
- Tap Rewards Details.
- Tap Amazon Flex Debit Card.

I was approved on April 29, 2025. Once you’re approved, you get a virtual card right away in the Amazon Flex Debit Card app. You set up a username and password, add money, and start using the virtual card before the physical one arrives.

One thing to know: once you’re approved, Amazon switches your Flex pay to the new card. You can change that in the Settings menu of the Amazon Flex app.
My physical card shipped on May 7, 2025.

On May 12, I got an email saying it was on its way. I had it a few days later.

You activate the physical card in the Amazon Flex Debit Card app. It’s a plain blue Visa with the Amazon Flex logo. The front has no card number on it.

How Amazon Flex Rewards Levels Work
This part matters, because your gas cash back depends on your Flex Rewards level.
There are 4 levels:
| Level | Points needed |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | 1 point |
| Level 2 | 650 points |
| Level 3 | 3,000 points |
| Level 4 | 6,500 points |
You earn points by delivering. How many points you get depends on your standing:
| Standing | Points per delivery | Points per block |
|---|---|---|
| At Risk | 0 | 0 |
| Fair | 1 | 10 |
| Good | 2 | 20 |
| Fantastic | 3 | 30 |
Everyone starts at Fair, so the first few weeks are slow. Once you reach Fantastic, points come in three times faster.
For example, a block with 40 deliveries earns 50 points at Fair and 150 points at Fantastic.
It took me about 3 months to reach Level 4.
Points reset every quarter, so you have to earn your level again each quarter.
That changes the math for most drivers. Most Flex drivers are part-time, so they finish each quarter at Level 2 or Level 3. That means 2% or 4% on gas, not 6%.
My tip is to protect your standing. At Risk earns zero points, which means your card’s top rate gets further away.
Amazon Flex Debit Card Cash Back Rates
Your gas and EV charging cash back goes up with your level. The Amazon.com and “everything else” rates stay the same.
| Flex Rewards level | Gas and eligible EV charging | Amazon.com and Whole Foods | Everything else |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level 2 | 2% | 2% | 1% |
| Level 3 | 4% | 2% | 1% |
| Level 4 | 6% | 2% | 1% |
Here’s what each level shows in the app.

The marketing page says “up to 6%” for a reason. You only get 6% at Level 4.

EV charging only counts at certain networks. The terms list Electrify America, EVgo, Blink Charging, Shell Recharge Solutions, EV Connect, PowerFlex and AmpUp. The list can change.
There’s also a $500 monthly cash back cap across all categories. That’s $8,333 of gas a month at 6%, so normal drivers will never hit it.
You can read the full rules in the Amazon Flex rewards terms.
My Real Cash Back Receipts
Here’s proof the 6% is real. I spent $48.87 on gas on August 18, 2026. The next day I got $2.93 cash back. That’s 6%.

The cash back shows up as its own credit on your balance, usually the same day or the next day. You don’t have to redeem anything. It just lands as money on the card.
The Catch With the 2% Amazon.com Cash Back
This one is misleading
The card says 2% cash back on Amazon.com. In practice, you only get 2% on items shipped and sold by Amazon.com. Items from third-party Marketplace sellers only get 1%.
Here’s a $18.22 Amazon.com purchase. It earned $0.36, which is 2%.

Here’s a $39.59 purchase from the same day that showed up as “AMAZON MKTPL.” It earned $0.39, which is only 1%.

A lot of what you buy on Amazon comes from Marketplace sellers. So don’t count on 2% for all of it.
Honestly, a flat 2% card like the Wells Fargo Active Cash does just as well on Amazon, and it pays 2% on everything else too.
Double Cash Back Promos (Up to 12% on Gas)
During Amazon’s busy seasons, Flex sometimes doubles the cash back. From September 15 to 30, 2026, cardholders got:
- Up to 12% cash back on fuel and eligible EV charging
- 4% on Amazon.com and Whole Foods
- 2% on groceries and supermarkets
- 1% on everything else

Notice the “up to.” The promo doubles your rate. I’m Level 4, so my 6% became 12%. A Level 2 driver’s 2% only doubles to 4%.
Here’s my 12% in action. I spent $36.13 on gas on September 17, 2026 and got $4.33 cash back. That’s 12%.

The promo terms have a few catches:
- The 2% grocery rate doesn’t count at gas stations, convenience stores, warehouse clubs, discount stores or super stores. Those earn 1%.
- Visa decides how a store is categorized, so some grocery stores may not get the 2%.
- The $500 monthly cap still applies.

When a promo is running, I make sure every gas fill-up goes on this card.
How Much I’ve Earned in Total
Since getting the card, I’ve earned $248.58 in cash back.

Here’s the breakdown:
| Category | Cash back |
|---|---|
| Gas | $242.37 |
| EV charging | $0.00 |
| Amazon.com and Whole Foods | $5.76 |
| Other | $0.45 |
| Total | $248.58 |

97% of my cash back came from gas. That’s how I use this card. I treat it as a gas card, not an everyday card.
To give you a sense of scale: at a flat 6%, $242 of cash back works out to about $4,000 of gas. My real number is a bit different, because I was at lower levels at first and earned 12% during promos.

Amazon Flex Instant Pay and Moving Money
The card also gets you faster Flex pay. With Amazon Flex Instant Pay, your pay goes to the card shortly after each block, at no charge, even on weekends and holidays.
Tip-eligible blocks are paid 27 hours after the block ends.

If you send your Flex pay to a regular bank instead, it takes 1 business day. I’ve tested both. Instant Pay to the card really is instant.
Linking a bank account
You can link an outside bank account in the app. I linked my Wells Fargo checking account on May 14, 2025.

Two days later, I moved my first $100 from Wells Fargo onto the card. The email says bank transfers submitted by 9:30 pm PST usually finish within 3 business days.

Moving money off the card is just as easy. My most recent transaction was a $260.58 transfer back to my Wells Fargo checking.

The Amazon Flex Debit Card App
You manage the card in the Amazon Flex Debit Card app. It’s separate from the Amazon Flex delivery app. I do everything in the app. I’ve never found a web login for the card.

The home screen has 6 main buttons:
- Deposit a Check
- Direct Deposit
- Support
- Vaults
- Cash Back Rewards
- Bank Transfer

In the app you can also track your spending and cash back, lock your card if it’s lost or stolen, and deposit checks with your phone.

The card works with mobile pay. I have a Samsung phone, so it gave me both Samsung Pay and Google Pay.

There’s also an ATM & Reload tab. It shows nearby ATMs and places where you can add cash, and you can search by zip code.

Vaults: Why I Don’t Use Them
The app has a savings feature called Vaults. You set money aside inside the card account.
There are two types:
- General: move money in whenever you want, or set up automatic transfers.
- Goal: set a target amount and an end date, and the app helps you stay on track.

A General vault can run on a schedule, for example a set amount on the 1st of every month until you pause or delete it.

A Goal vault lets you pick a weekly transfer on a day you choose until you hit your goal.

The problem is that Vaults pay 0% interest. Your savings just sit there.
I don’t recommend them. A high-yield savings account paying around 3.5% will earn you actual money on the same savings. If you want to see how much that adds up over time, use my compound interest calculator.
ATMs and Fees
The Amazon Flex Debit Card has no monthly fee. Here’s what the ATM fees look like:
- 3 free withdrawals per calendar month at in-network ATMs
- $3 per withdrawal after that
- $3 per withdrawal at out-of-network ATMs, plus any fee the ATM owner charges
The card says there are 19,000 ATM locations.

I’ve never used it at an ATM. When I need cash, I use my Wells Fargo debit card. This card is just for gas.
The Gas Station Glitch
This is my biggest complaint.
When you pay at the pump, the station places a small hold on your card first. For me it’s a $1 pre-authorization.
If I fill up two days in a row, the card often gets declined on the second day. As far as I can tell, the previous day’s $1 hold hasn’t cleared yet, and the card won’t approve a new one.
It’s annoying when you’re standing at the pump. When it happens, I switch to my 5% PayPal Debit Card. I only lose 1%, so it’s not a big deal, but it’s something you should know about.
If you drive a lot for Flex and fill up daily, keep a backup card with you.
How I Use the Amazon Flex Debit Card
Here’s my setup:
- My Flex earnings go to my Wells Fargo checking account.
- I move money from Wells Fargo onto the Amazon Flex Debit Card, only what I need for gas.
- I use the card for gas only.
- If the card declines at the pump, I use my PayPal Debit Card instead.
I also stack Upside on top. Upside works with this card, so I get the card’s cash back plus Upside’s cash back on the same fill-up.
For everyday spending, other cards do better. I use a 2% card for most things, like the PayPal Credit Card. The Flex card only wins on gas.
If you want to see everything else I do on the side, here’s how I make money online.
Pros and Cons

- Up to 12% on gas during double cash back promos
- No monthly fee
- Instant virtual card when you’re approved

Cons
- Only Amazon Flex delivery partners can get it

- Often declines on back-to-back gas days for me
- Vaults pay 0% interest

- It’s a debit card, so it doesn’t build credit
- Points reset every quarter, so most part-time drivers top out at 2% or 4% on gas
Amazon Flex Debit Card Review: My Verdict
If you drive for Amazon Flex, get the Amazon Flex Debit Card. It’s free, and 6% cash back on gas beats almost every card out there for the thing Flex drivers spend the most on.
It has paid me $248.58 so far, almost all of it from gas. On $200 of gas a month, 6% works out to $12 a month, or $144 a year, for using a card you’d carry anyway.
That 6% is only for Level 4, though, and points reset every quarter. Most Flex drivers are part-time and end up at Level 2 or Level 3, which means 2% or 4% on gas. If that’s you, the PayPal Debit Card wins. It pays 5% cash back on gas when you pick gas as your category, whatever your Flex level, and it works even if you never drive for Flex.
My advice depends on your level:
- Level 4: use the Amazon Flex Debit Card for gas and keep the PayPal Debit Card as your backup for the days it declines at the pump.
- Level 2 or 3: use the PayPal Debit Card for gas. Keep the Flex card for Instant Pay and the double cash back promos.
Either way, skip the Vaults, and don’t count on 2% at Amazon.
If you don’t drive for Flex, you can’t get it. The 5% PayPal Debit Card or a flat 2% cash back card is the next best thing.

Do Vaults earn interest?
No. Vaults pay 0%. A high-yield savings account is a better place for savings.
How fast is Amazon Flex Instant Pay to the card?
Instant, shortly after each block, at no charge. Tip-eligible blocks are paid 27 hours after the block ends. Pay to an outside bank takes 1 business day.
