The Amazon Store Card is a Synchrony credit card that only works on Amazon. It pays 5% cash back on Amazon purchases, but only if you have Prime. Without Prime, it pays nothing.
I’ve had the card since May 2025. I’ve never had Prime for more than a month, so my rewards balance has been $0.00 (0 points) the whole time.
In this Amazon Store Card review, I’ll cover why I got it anyway, the 0% monthly payments, my $1,200 limit, the financing change in 2026, and who should actually get this card.

What Is the Amazon Store Card?
The Amazon Store Card is a store credit card issued by Synchrony Bank. It’s a closed-loop card, which means it only works at Amazon. You can’t use it at a gas station, grocery store or anywhere else.
Here’s what it offers:
- No annual fee
- 5% cash back on Amazon.com, but only with an eligible Prime membership
- 0% APR equal monthly payments on qualifying orders of $50 or more
- Zero fraud liability
When you’re approved, Amazon adds the card to your account as your default payment method. The card shows as “Linked with Synchrony Bank” in your Amazon wallet.

Why I Applied: The $80 Gift Card
I’ll be honest. I applied for the $80 Amazon gift card. It was free money.
I was approved on May 19, 2025. The email said the card was ready and had been added to my Amazon account as my default credit card.

The $80 gift card was loaded to my Amazon.com account instantly on approval. I didn’t have to spend anything or wait for the physical card.

Sign-up offers change, so check the amount on the Amazon Store Card page before you apply. Some people see a different amount.
The same day, I set up online access with Synchrony.

On May 21, 2025, Synchrony emailed me to say my card had been issued. The physical card came in the mail after that.

I’ve never used the physical card. Amazon already has the card saved, so the plastic just sits in my drawer.
My Approval, Credit Score and Credit Limit
When I applied, my credit score was in the mid to high 700s and my credit history was about 3 years old.
My starting credit limit was $1,200. That’s pretty low. I’ve never asked for an increase, because I don’t really need the card.

Like most credit cards, applying can mean a hard inquiry on your credit report. Plan for one.
Amazon Store Card Rewards: 0% Without Prime
This is the biggest problem with the Amazon Store Card.
Without Prime, it earns no rewards. Here’s my reward summary after more than a year with the card: $0.00, 0 points.

Amazon keeps reminding you what you’re missing. Every time I look at the card, there’s a “Join Prime and get 5% back” banner.

So the card’s main selling point is locked behind a Prime membership. If you don’t pay for Prime, it’s a credit card with no rewards that only works at one store.
Amazon Store Card vs. Prime Store Card
There aren’t really two separate cards. It’s the same card with two modes:
| Amazon Store Card (no Prime) | Prime Store Card (with Prime) | |
|---|---|---|
| Cash back on Amazon.com | None | 5% cash back |
| Where it works | Amazon only | Amazon only |
| Annual fee | $0 | $0 (but Prime costs money) |
| 0% equal monthly payments | Yes, $50+ orders | Yes, $50+ orders |
If you have an eligible Prime membership, the card upgrades to the Prime Store Card automatically. Your card number stays the same.
With Prime, orders under $50 get 5% cash back. On orders of $50 or more, you choose between promotional financing and 5% cash back. You can’t get both.

One more catch: if you’re an invited guest on someone else’s Prime account, you need your own eligible Prime membership to get the upgrade.
My Prime story
I recently got Prime for one month to watch the new season of a TV Show. I shopped during that month and enjoyed the faster shipping.
I completely forgot to check out with the Amazon Store Card. I had the 5% right there, and I still didn’t use it.
That’s how forgettable this card is without Prime. Even with Prime, I didn’t remember it.
Amazon Store Card Financing: Equal Monthly Payments
The other reason to get this card is financing.
On orders of $50 or more, you can choose 0% APR equal monthly payments at checkout. Your purchase gets split into equal payments with no interest.

This is the one feature that works the same whether you have Prime or not.
Special Financing Ended in February 2026
The card used to offer two kinds of promotional financing:
- Equal monthly payments: 0% APR, split into equal payments.
- Special financing: no interest if you paid the full amount within 6, 12 or 24 months.
On December 2, 2025, Synchrony emailed me that special financing was ending. Starting the week of February 16, 2026, new purchases can’t use special financing anymore.

You can still choose 0% equal monthly payments. Synchrony says the change doesn’t affect your APR, credit limit, fees, or old special financing purchases.
Honestly, this change isn’t all bad. Special financing was deferred interest. If you didn’t pay it off in time, you could get hit with interest going all the way back to the purchase date. Equal monthly payments are simpler.
My One and Only Purchase
I’ve only used the Amazon Store Card once.
In mid-2026, I wanted to try the monthly payments. I made a purchase and chose equal monthly payments over 6 months.
My July 2026 statement showed a $99.14 balance and a $16.53 minimum payment. That’s the $99.14 split into 6 payments.

I made one $20 payment. Then I got tired of keeping track and paid the rest in full. My balance is $0.00 now.
The financing worked fine. I just don’t need it. I pay all my cards in full every month, so splitting a $99 purchase into six payments didn’t do much for me.
The Synchrony Website
You can manage the card on Synchrony’s website. It’s also where you request a credit limit increase.
My problem is the website. It often gets stuck on the loading screen when I log in.

It usually loads if I refresh or try again later.
Refer a Friend: $20 Amazon Gift Cards
The card has a referral program. You get a $20 Amazon gift card for each friend who’s approved for the Prime Store Card or Amazon Store Card, up to $100 per calendar year.

You’ll find the “Refer a Friend” link in the card section of your Amazon account.
Why I Still Keep It
I got this card for the $80. I pay my balances in full, so I don’t need the monthly payments right now.
I still keep it open for three reasons:
- It costs nothing. There’s no annual fee.
- It adds $1,200 to my total credit limit. More available credit lowers my overall utilization, which helps my credit score.
- It’s a backup for big purchases. If I ever need a big purchase like a laptop or a TV, 0% equal monthly payments let me spread it out without interest. It’s good to have that option ready even if I don’t need it today.
Here’s where it fits with my other cards:
| Card | What I use it for |
|---|---|
| Wells Fargo Active Cash | 2% cash back on everyday purchases |
| PayPal Cashback Mastercard | 2% cash back, including Amazon |
| PayPal Debit Card | 5% cash back on my chosen category |
| Amazon Store Card | Extra credit limit and 0% financing as a backup |
Without Prime, my 2% cards beat the Amazon Store Card on every Amazon order.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- No annual fee
- Sign-up bonus (an $80 gift card for me, given instantly)
- 5% cash back on Amazon.com with Prime
- 0% APR equal monthly payments on $50+ orders
- Adds to your total credit limit
- Zero fraud liability
- $20 referral gift cards, up to $100 a year
Cons
- No rewards at all without Prime
- Only works at Amazon
- On $50+ orders, you choose financing or 5%, not both
- Special financing ended in February 2026
- My starting limit was low ($1,200)
- The Synchrony website often gets stuck loading
- Easy to forget you even have it
Amazon Store Card Review: My Verdict
Without Prime, the Amazon Store Card is nearly useless. It earns nothing and only works at one store. A free 2% cash back card beats it on every Amazon order.
It’s still worth getting for the sign-up bonus if your credit is in good shape. I got $80 in Amazon credit for doing nothing, and the card now adds $1,200 to my credit limit at no cost.
Get it if:
- You already pay for Prime and shop on Amazon a lot. 5% cash back is strong.
- You want 0% equal monthly payments for a big Amazon purchase.
- You want the sign-up bonus and a free bump to your total credit limit.
Skip it if:
- You don’t have Prime and don’t plan to get it.
- You’re working on your credit and don’t want a hard inquiry for a card you won’t use.
- You want a card that works everywhere. A flat 2% cash back card is the better everyday card.
For me, it’s a drawer card. I took the $80, I keep it open for the credit limit, and it’s there if I ever need 0% financing.
